In the quiet of the Indonesian forest in November 2023, Indra’s arrival surprised everyone. Born several weeks early, when keepers first found him lying next to his mother, Delilah, they initially mistook the muddy little calf for a wild pig! Today, there is no mistaking him. Named after the Sanskrit word for a "strong leader" or "king," Indra is already living up to his title.
Indra is a fast-growing rhino who inherited his father Harapan's large build and his mother’s independent spirit. Now fully weaned and living in his own enclosure, he spends his days wallowing in the mud and exploring the dense forest. He is famously the last one to come back to his stall in the morning—he simply loves being out in the wild.
