Rhino Monitoring Foot Collar

Directly contribute to rhino conservation by funding a rhino monitoring foot collar. These collars (which actually look more like a big ankle bracelet) help track and protect rhinos from poachers and ensure their safety in the wild.

This new and innovative rhino monitoring system features AI-enabled rhino collars that detect and transmit alerts about abnormal rhino behavior in real-time. The solar-powered rhino collar design includes smart algorithms that continuously monitor a rhino’s individual behavior. If an abnormal behavior is detected, the collar sends an alert via the communications network, pinpointing the incident location via GPS. Different types of alerts can be triggered by rhinos fighting or chasing each other, by rhinos giving birth or other activities, allowing the ecological team to respond faster to treat injuries and allowing management teams to gather more accurate population information and intercalving records. Alerts are also triggered when an animal is severely injured or has died from either natural causes or a poaching event. This enables the effective, real-time investigation of possible poaching incidents.

Each AI-enabled rhino collar costs $800. The total cost of monitoring a single rhino, including the collar, helicopter and veterinary support to fit the collar, as well as Wi-Fi, satellite equipment and service, is $5,000. You can contribute any amount between $800 and $5,000 to help purchase collars and monitor rhinos.
