His name is an ancient Indonesian word for the island of Sumatra.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn 2007, Andalas made the journey from the United States to the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary (SRS) in Indonesia’s Way Kambas National Park. There was no guarantee that a rhino born and raised in a zoo would successfully adapt to life in the forest and become part of a breeding program. Andalas did both.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHe and Ratu welcomed their son Andatu in 2012 - the first Sumatran rhino born at a breeding facility in Indonesia - and their daughter Delilah in 2016. Today, both Andatu and Delilah have produced calves of their own, making Andalas a grandfather and extending the conservation legacy that began with his historic birth in Cincinnati.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAndalas has also fully embraced life in the Sumatran forest.
